Way to Go

Getting to NARC Sustainably

Northcote Aquatic & Recreation Centre (NARC) is easy to reach using a range of sustainable, healthy and low‑impact transport options.

Whether you’re walking, riding, running, rolling or catching public transport, there are plenty of great ways to travel that reduce congestion, support a cleaner Darebin, and make your visit even more enjoyable.

Ride your Bike

Cycling is one of the fastest and most enjoyable ways to get to NARC.

  • Plenty of bike parking: Additional bike parking is being promoted and supported as part of the joint Way to Go sustainable transport campaign
  • Local routes made easier: The Way to Go map highlights the safest and most direct bike-friendly routes to NARC via off‑road paths and quieter local streets
  • Bring the family: Riding is a great option for all ages, and Darebin’s growing cycling network makes it easier than ever.

Don’t forget: Bring a lock and lights if you’re riding after dark.

Walk or Run

If you live nearby, why not make your trip to NARC part of your daily exercise?

  • Many neighbourhood streets connect directly to the centre
  • Walking or running reduces carbon emissions while boosting fitness
  • Ideal for quick visits, group classes, or a refreshing active commute.
Public Transport

NARC is well-connected by public transport, making it simple to leave the car at home.

  • Buses: Multiple routes operate along Victoria Road and surrounding streets with stops only a short walk from the centre
  • Train: Northcote and Croxton Stations provide convenient access if you’re travelling from further away
  • Plan your journey: Use PTV journey planning tools to find the quickest route

Public transport integrates perfectly with walking or cycling for the last part of your trip.

E‑Scooter & E‑Bike Trial

From February onwards, Darebin’s new shared e‑scooter/e‑bike trial provides another fun, sustainable and flexible way to get around.

  • Great for short local trips to and from NARC
  • A convenient option for visitors who don’t own a bike or prefer a powered boost
  • Part of Darebin’s ongoing efforts to reduce transport emissions and provide safe, accessible mobility options.

This initiative is being actively promoted through the Way to Go campaign, including video and social content developed by the City of Darebin and shared with NARC for public rollout.

Why Choose Sustainable Transport?

Choosing to walk, ride, run, scoot or take public transport helps to:
  • Reduce traffic and parking pressure around NARC
  • Lower your carbon footprint
  • Improve health and wellbeing
  • Support Darebin’s long-term sustainability goals.
