Northcote Aquatic and Recreation Centre is the 250th Victorian aquatic facility to join the Watch Around Water campaign since its inception in the state in 2008!

Members of the aquatic industry and Darebin Council will gather at the state-of-the-art Northcote Aquatic and Recreation Centre, which officially opened in November 2023, to celebrate almost 15 years of successful water safety campaigning of the Watch Around Water and SwimSafe campaigns as part of their water safety education programs.

Watch Around Water was launched in 2008 and continues to work towards reducing drownings in children under the age of ten. With a focus on educating the public about active supervision for children around water, the campaign has officially reached 250 registered facilities across Victoria.

Simultaneously, LSV’s SwimSafe campaign has continued the mission to protect adult vulnerable swimmers since its inception in 2019. Now reaching the five-year mark, SwimSafe has continued to educate vulnerable people including non-swimmers, culturally and linguistically diverse, or those with pre-existing medical conditions or disabilities, about the hazards associated with aquatic environments. SwimSafe recently marked a milestone of 150 registered facilities.

Northcote Aquatic and Recreation Centre joins the list of facilities to deliver both of these vital campaigns and will host key members of the aquatic industry, sponsors, and council representatives to showcase these remarkable achievements and reinforce the commitment towards preventing drownings. The significance of these milestones extends beyond statistics, representing a collective effort to enhance water safety across Victoria.
